It’s been a year since Willem tore apart The Fall of Minneapolis for its lies, and the documentary’s creators—Alpha News and producer Liz Collin—have shown no signs of remorse. If anything, they’ve doubled down, proving that their true goal was never journalism, never truth, but spectacle and self-promotion.
Let’s be blunt: what they did was obscene. They took the senseless murder of George Floyd—a human being whose life ended in tragedy at the hands of a police officer—and repackaged it as a political prop, a tool to generate clicks, notoriety, and influence. Every misrepresentation, every clipped testimony, every selective frame of body-cam footage wasn’t an accident. It was deliberate.
From Reporter to Police-Aligned Voice
Liz Collin spent nearly 14 years at WCCO‑TV in Minneapolis as an anchor and reporter. But after her marriage to Bob Kroll, the former president of the Minneapolis Police Officers Federation, Collin stepped away from covering police and union matters. WCCO acknowledged this was done to avoid conflicts of interest, but public scrutiny and controversy over her dual role were intense, especially in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder.
When Collin left WCCO in January 2022, she joined Alpha News, where she has produced content on crime and policing. The Fall of Minneapolis reflects this shift: the documentary repeatedly misdefines police techniques, selectively edits testimony, and frames evidence to suggest that officers, including Derek Chauvin, were victims of a rigged system. The human cost of Floyd’s death fades into the background, replaced by a narrative that amplifies police perspectives while erasing accountability.
Manufacturing Outrage, Masked as “Reporting”
Alpha News claims to be a news outlet. Collin positions herself as a journalist. But the documentary is nothing more than a performance of faux credibility. It weaponizes half-truths to stir anger, confusion, and conspiracy, while knowing full well the full evidence had been publicly available and properly adjudicated. They weren’t investigating; they were exploiting. They turned the death of a Black man into a story about themselves.
Modern-Day Privilege Cloaked as Journalism
Pretending to report while amplifying distortion is the new face of privilege. Alpha News and Liz Collin enjoy the status of journalists—access, platforms, and credibility—yet wield it like a shield while advancing narratives rooted in racial manipulation. They exploit public tragedy to inflate their own importance, trading ethics for clicks.
This isn’t commentary. It’s opportunism dressed as objectivity. It’s performative outrage at its worst, where the suffering of others becomes fodder for personal gain.
One Year On: Still a Cautionary Tale
As of February 2025, the Chauvin case is closed, the legal record is clear, and Floyd’s memory remains a testament to a system that failed him. Yet Alpha News and Collin continue to profit from false framing, proving Willem’s warning: when media outlets prioritize spectacle over truth, tragedy becomes a stage for narcissism and deceit.
The lesson is simple: call out false journalists. Hold them accountable. And never let tragedy be used as a ladder for fame, influence, or ideological games. Alpha News and Liz Collin are counting on our inaction. It’s time to make sure they don’t get away with it.
