Minneapolis‑area robotics observers and consumers now have a high‑profile development to watch: Figure AI, an American robotics company, has unveiled its third‑generation humanoid robot, Figure 03, designed to handle tasks in home and commercial environments with improved safety, sensing, and interaction capabilities.
Figure 03 represents a complete hardware and software redesign from earlier models, built around the company’s Helix vision‑language‑action AI system. The robot includes enhanced cameras with higher frame rates and wider fields of view, tactile sensors capable of detecting delicate forces, and embedded palm cameras to aid grasping and manipulation. Its softer exterior and multi‑density foam improve safety for environments with people and pets.
At about 5′8″ tall with a 20 kg payload capacity, Figure 03 navigates indoor spaces with a design tailored for domestic use while retaining potential for commercial applications. The robot achieves roughly five hours of runtime per charge and supports wireless inductive charging by stepping onto a charging mat — a feature that could allow it to recharge autonomously during the day.
Despite the enthusiastic unveiling, Figure AI notes that Figure 03 will not be fully ready for autonomous home use at launch, with further development and testing expected through 2026. Like many advanced humanoid robots, it remains a work in progress rather than a finished consumer product.
Analysts say Figure 03 is one of the more concrete examples of a North American robotics firm aiming for everyday environments, even as real‑world reliability and safety in cluttered homes remain challenges. Its development highlights significant progress in embodied AI and robot design, even as broad deployment is still on the horizon.
